Hornet chating a bee in flight
I'm back from my HIVE summer holiday 2024 and am starting the new season with a little video of and with my bees.
I was at my apiary today and the hornets were buzzing around the colonies and grabbing the odd bee. I had my smartphone with me and was able to film a hornet flying around the hive a few times, trying in vain to catch a bee in flight. Eventually it was successful and swooped down on the bees in flight and then into the grass to kill them. It then flew with its prey into the nearest tree, where it disappeared and probably ate its fill. The whole thing only lasts a few seconds, but I managed to capture it somehow.

Hornisse fängt eine Biene während des Fluges
Ich bin zurück aus meinem HIVE Sommerurlaub 2024 und beginne die neue Saison mit einem kleinen Video von und mit meinen Bienen.
Ich war heute auf meinem Bienenstand und die Hornissen umschwirren gerade die Bienenvölker und schnappen sich die eine oder andere Biene. Ich hatte mein Smartphone dabei und konnte eine Hornisse filmen, wie sie ein paar Mal um den Bienenstock flog und vergeblich versucht, eine Biene im Flug zu erwischen. Schließlich hatte sie Erfolg und stürzt sich im Flug auf die Bienen uns anschließen mit ihr ins Gras, um sie dort zu töten. Danach flog sie mit ihrer Beute in den nächsten Baum, wo sie verschwand und sich wahrscheinlich satt fraß. Das Ganze dauert nur ein paar Sekunden, aber es ist mir gelungen, es irgendwie festzuhalten.
