I lost control again.

Looking for a cheerful post? Keep scrolling. This one is in the mood of Joy Division. The irony is not lost on me. I know that a few of my readers are fans of Joy Division. They know that mood. That special feeling when you hang on the couch and "Unkown Pleasures" scratches through needle and speaker right in to your ear, deep inside your brain, wrecking havoc on all the chemicals there.

I watched "Control" when it came into the cinemas. I was working as a projectionist back then. Not many people came to see the movie. So I sat next to the bar that I was tending, too, and watched it. I had turned 18 a few months before, was finishing high school, the typical teenage-writer-dark-thoughts were known to me. The movie hit me with unexpected intensity. My brother has/had epilepsy, and there were so many triggers in the movie. So much I could relate to. I cried several times.

I never watched the movie again. It hits too close to home. But I took the music with me. A dystopia preserved in distortion. Yesterday, I had it on the sound system all afternoon. There was a certain satisfaction coming into the flat and being embraced by that mood, and embracing it. Yesterday was a bad day. Not my worst, but the worst in quite a while. But sitting on the couch late at night, after the jamsession, with Ellie, having one last beer, trying to express myself in a comprehensible way, well, Unknown Pleasures struck that nerve. The collectors edition, digital, not vinyl, but especially the "Live in Manchester" part doesn't need vinyl. It's raw enough.

There's a music for every mood. A music that welcomes you. That holds you. That supports you no matter what. That sustains you, let's you float a little above the worldly problems. Enough to make it to the next day. Despite the constant question of "Where will it end?"
