Darn Yarn.

I took these pictures especially for a B/W comparison. A long time ago. Then I got distracted a couple of months and never even converted them. Well... Now it's time and here they are!

The beginning

Lily had wrecked havoc on the nice, orderly hung wheel of yarn. It took me a while, but I was able to turn it into a wheel again, then started the tedious work of untangling it.

For the first part, I sat on the floor, pulling one side until I found a knot, then following the yarn through as many knots at once as possible, and then pulling. With time, it got very long, so I started rolling it into ball. Which wasn't the best idea as it wasn't easy to pass the ball through the holes.

The streets of Yarn

So I threw the threads behind me, always a few centimeters apart, so they wouldn't entangle yet again. When I looked back, I saw the interesting paths and figures that the yarn was creating, and there came the idea for photographs.

These once are close to the end, when it was already untangled. While turning the pictures BW, I noticed how different they can look, depending on the settings chosen. These are only pre-set filters, but I hope that in a couple of months more, I might have time to play with my own settings.

In this one, the clear focus on the front makes the ball turn blurry in the back, which is enhanced a lot by the high contrast in the BW.

With the warm BW, the focus on the ball comes out very beautifully.

Another round of regular BW, and the same result with the ball as in high contrast. The focus here lies in the middle between the yarn in the front, almost touching the frame, and the ball.

That's about it for today in my endeavors in finding motives for BW photography. I have a few more, which I hopefully will share sooner rather than later. In and of itself, it's less work to prepare a photo post than a philosophy post, but still... it's the "just do it" part that's missing a little. Gotta get motivated again!
