A Hornet on a Butterfly Hunt

I had already seen this beautiful butterfly in the morning, which is called "Emperor's Cloak" . So I came back later to take photos, but at first I couldn't see it.

Instead, another smaller butterfly was very eagerly at work, excitedly sticking its trunk into the flowers of the butterfly bush.

"What, I'm supposed to share my nectar with a bee? Well, off you go, find your own flower!"

"That's better, after all, there are enough blossoms for everyone!"

And then I saw him again, the emperor's cloak! I approached him cautiously, but when I finally got close enough the unexpected happened!

Out of nowhere a hornet appeared, directly towards the butterfly. It was quite fast, but in fact the butterfly was much faster and disappeared in the sky in a split second, while the hornet flew on to the pear tree. It was pure luck that I managed to take this snapshot, I could not have reacted that quickly.

The emperor cloak stayed away from the place, but I could take more photos of the small brown butterfly.

Eine Hornisse auf Schmetterlings Jagd

Ich hatte schon morgens diesen wunderschönen Schmetterling, der hierzulande "Kaisermantel" genannt wird, gesehen. Also kam ich später wieder um Fotos zu machen, doch zuerst konnte ich ihn nicht mehr sehen.

Dafür war ein anderer kleinerer Schmetterling sehr eifrig am Werk, seinen Rüssel aufgeregt in die Blüten des Sommerflieders (auch Schmetterlingsbaum genannt) zu stecken.

Und dann sah ich ihn wieder, den Kaisermantel! Ich näherte mich ihm vorsichtig, doch als ich endlich nahe genug herankam geschah das Unverhoffte!
Aus dem Nichts heraus tauchte eine Hornisse auf, direkt auf den Schmetterling zu. Es ging ziemlich schnell, doch tatsächlich war der Schmetterling viel schneller und war im Bruchteil einer Sekunde am Himmel verschwunden, während die Hornisse weiter zum Birnenbaum flog. Es war reines Glück, dass mir dieser Schnappschuss gelungen ist, so schnell hätte ich gar nicht reagieren können.

Der Kaisermantel blieb dem Ort fern, dafür konnte ich von dem kleinen braunen Schmetterling noch mehr Fotos machen.
