super school and sequences

Today is thursday 10 may 2018 and we studied an introduction to fibonacci sequence and golden ratio

First we watched Fibonacci and the Golden Mean (1) by Mete Erdogan and then __ The Fibonacci Sequence,Natures Code by Scishow (2) and then Top Ten places You Won't Believe the Golden Ration and the Fibonacci Sequence by Be Amazed (3)
After a short break we had discussion time, being very much aware this is a complex concept being introduced to a twelve year old and a fifteen year old and bearing in mind the various challenges my son faces I structured discussion time around questions and deducing facts in which I used pencil and paper to draw different examples of each
We talked about how it appears in nature and we all found the Trump golden ratio picture very amusing my youngest really caught on quick and was able to demonstrate to me not only her grasp of the sequence but was also able to sketch for me the ratio in squares, 1,1, 3 , 5, it was more difficult for her to see it in the sunflower until we drew the sequence of the seeds as they grew and then she was much more confident in recognising the pattern, she was able to point out its use in advertising and the hurricane pictures from space, I am very impressed how quickly she took to it and how she understood it in depth
her homework has been decided as , taking photos of the various flowers and plants in our garden and demonstrating how each shows the sequence
My son is enjoying his being a boy obssessed with creepy crawlies stage and was amused and very quick to point out that wasps show the sequence, he also noticed its use in design particularly web design being very attached to his pc this spoke to him, he began to notice the golden ratio in architecture after a little help though he warmed more to the examples with basic geometry, being autistic he still slips into echolalia a lot and so he is still telling us everything is four thousand years old from yesterdays history lesson
which is brilliant and his homework has been decided on him researching the use of fibonacci within the animation world, his main obsession is animation and he is good at it I am really looking forward to seeing what he finds to show me, their homework is due on tuesday so they both have the weekend to relax into their subject and on tuesday it has been decided we are going on a field trip to a forest and finding as many examples as we can showing the sequence and from our field trip adventure we will produce a piece of art as a combined project, we are all excited for tuesday
