DIY Bow Build - Part 5 (Last One)

Hey there Steemers!!
I'm back again with the final installment of this bow build. For the past few days, I've been sanding, staining, spraying, but most of all, WAITING!! Waiting for the stain to dry, waiting for the poly to dry, etc., etc...

After sanding with up to 400 grit sandpaper for a glass smooth finish, I applied the first coat of stain...

Waited a few hours for that to dry, sanded it down a bit, then applied the 2nd coat...

That's the color I'm going for...

Now that the stain is on and dry, I tape of the area getting paint. The area on the limbs that got the fiberglass backing will be painted black...

In the Texas heat, that paint was bone dry in an hour! Now, its time for the first coat of polyurethane...

Two hours later, the first coat of poly was dry. I gave it a very light sanding, then sprayed in the second coat...

Everything dried nicely in a couple of hours except for the purple heart wood on the handle. I let that sit for a while longer while i prepared for the last step...

Finally, I'm wrapping the "fades" of the bow with jutte twine. This is purely ascetic. I think it gives it a nice rustic look...

That's it!! It's done!! My first self made bow!! Check out the finished product!
