Ability strategy analysis: Magic reflect

Ability strategy twitter.png

Introduction

This week ability deep dive Magic reflect. Directly i can think of my number one unit. While i like to play magic often I also expect other that has that as their favorite attack type. Therefor i like the magic reflect ability a lot.

Ability

When hit with Magic damage, does half the Magic damage (rounded up) back to the attacker.

Official ability information from splinterlands: List abilities

Synergies / strategy

Abilities benefits
Amplify - Amplify gives magic reflect a +1 return damage.
Consider adding a unit with this ability in your lineup - especially in a place where they would be targeted for snipe.

Weapons training - Some unit like my favorite does not have attack of it self this boost that specific magic reflect unit huge.

Be aware of abilities
Reflection shield - if a opponent has reflection shield magic reflect damage is absorbed
Void - Void reduced the return damage of the magic reflect often absobed fully.

Ruleset benefits
Wands out - With this rule set you know that magic will appear in the battlefield. Therefor every magic reflect unit is useful.
Up to Eleven - Amplify increases damage from magic reflect by 1.

Select / favorite

This week it was not that hard to choose a number one. there is one card that i use very often...
That is also confirmed by my stats:

And also my best performing battles with minimal 50 battles:

image.png

There it is my number one magic reflect unit. Magic reflect is also the ability why i like to chose it. Often combined with Grandmaster Rathe. Now with all the weapon training units this can be buffed so it can attack, this makes it even more valuable.

Strategy

Medium / High mana battle normally not that great for the the Pelacor Conjurer. Even in these matches i sometimes chose it. its also hard to hit with 5 speed and flying.
We need some flying units because of the earthquake, also now a day i like to play with sacrifice units with martyr so others are boosted specially when born again is in the mix.

Rulesets

Born Again:
All unit will be resurrected once. Nice to combo with martyr unit that will be forced to be killed first. Combine this with another resurrect unit and you are set to have some buffed units.

Are You Not Entertained?:
With this rule set you may use one gladius unit. These unit have the important bloodlust ability.

Earthquake:
All non flying units will receive 2 damage. Note that you can bring down flying units with the snare ability.

The Lineup

Summoner

CardReason
If you are following this series you have often see my favorite summoner. So versatile!!

Monsters Lineup

#1#2#3#4#5#6

Pelacor Conjurer (lvl 10)
Star of this week. Just look at the abilities i often choose it for the magic reflect but also the speed in combination with the flying and phase makes it a very strong unit even it cannot attack.
In this match i will pair it with Aves Sturgis so it gets 3 magic damage 🤯

Aves Sturgis (lvl 4)
Important unit in this match. This buffs my Pelacor Conjurer with 3 damage. Not that much health so when it is hit it will die quickly.

Adelade Brightwing (lvl 4)
Another important unit that needs to resurrect my Iziar for the second time when its killed. So Iziar can boot its adjacent units twice.

Djinn Renova (lvl 6)
Damage dealer that also heal the backline. This is the first unit that need to buffed twice by Iziar.

Iziar (lvl 3)
Yet another imporatant unit the needs to buff some of my units. It has taunt so the most damage should go towards this unit first.

Pelacor Arbalest (lvl 8)
The second unit that needs to be buffed by Iziar. This will do 10 damage every round when its fully buffed by Iziar.

Rounds

Start :

image.png
Lets go... Some similarity but also some major differences in the team selection. Her Uriel the Purifier is a strong unit in the front, but it can only attack every other round. I like what is see with the units that first need to attack my Iziar.
As i see it now her resurrect will be "waisted" on the first units and not on the Venari Marksrat.
The Pelacor Conjurer will do nice magic reflect for both team only mine is better buffed by Aves.

Round 1:

image.png
Did not expect to kill the Uriel the Purifier already in the first round. The damage done to my Iziar. first round and it looking good.

Round 2:

image.png
Resurrect waisted on the Uriel the Purifier the match is imo already decided in this round.
I forgot about the earthquake so that was her strategy the Venari Marksrat needed to be killed first by the earthquake. That failed luckily for me.

Round 3:

image.png
First boost by my Iziar is done. some magic reflect done on both side of the battle field showing of the Pelacor Conjurer.

Round 4:

image.png
I think my second boost of my Iziar is not reached and also not needed. My team is still standing very strong.

Round 5:

image.png
Match is over now her ranged attack unit is in the front. Love my Pelacor Conjurer and my Iziar

Round 6:

Vicotory!

Conclusion

Love to see when you chose a team perfect for the job. lately in modern its hard i my win percentage is not that high anymore.
Magic reflect is very useful ability that can be the worst nightmare for the magic attack units.
