Super Ocho 1973: A Tropical Flashback

In 1973, a group of Venezuelan surfers decided to adventure all around the tropics in search of the best waves. 18 year old Jose Ramon Moreno brought his Super 8 camera and shot reel after reel of empty lineups, wild sceneries and most importantly, perfect waves.

50 years later, the footage was still unseen. The stories were there, but the film was lost in time. Fast forward to last year, when Jose Ramon found a suitcase buried deep in a closet which turned out to be a treasure trove. He found countless Super 8 reels and subsequently had them digitized.

What emerged is a true time capsule. 25 minutes of pure tropical paradise. Vans full of hippies and single fins. Palm trees as far as the eye can see. Uncrowded beaches with immaculate waves.

More than a surf film, Super Ocho 1973 is an anthropological peek into a different era, "when a dollar was a dollar, and a wave was a wave."
