Wingsuit 5-way stack

5 of us in our wingsuits at Skydive Netheravon.

This was a progression weekend, so a bunch of wingsuiters at various levels all jumping together.

The purpose of these weekends are to learn not just to fly your wingsuit straight, but in steep dives, turns in various ways, flat, steep, mellow, backflying, barrel rolls etc.

I was progressing towards my WS2 rating, so wanted to jump in larger groups of people (which you can do with an instructor on the jump).

As you can see by the weather, it was a great day for it, although we did hit some thick cloud at around 5,500ft, which wasn't ideal.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how the turn out will be at these progression weekends moving forward, as the CCI of Skydive Netheravon has put a ban on any wingsuiting unless you have 500 jumps.

This means that anyone who has completed the necessary 200 jumps in 18 months and attained their WS1 rating (but does not have a total of 500 jumps), will not be able to jump with a wingsuit at Skydive Netheravon.

Why this ridiculous rule has been put in place I do not know, but what I do know is it will mean new jumpers will not be able to take advantage of the world level wingsuit coaching that Netheravon could once offer. There are some of the best wingsuit coaches in the world at Nethers, so its a great shame and a waste. The risk is that these jumpers will be tempted to fly over to Europe or visit other dropzones in the UK where they may get into bad habits as the appropriate coaching is not available.

I have 500 jumps so I am ok, but I have friends who I am now unable to jump with at Skydive Netheravon :-(
