Egg Debate?

I'm not gonna get into any political or environmental stance here. This is just a post about eggs.
Boiled eggs to be exact. Farm fresh versus store bought, in fact.

I visited my dear life-long soulmate friend (okay, she's my aunt, but that descriptor still holds true). She gifted me with a dozen beautiful eggs from her chickens. I know these things are like gold these days, so I was feeling a little guilty taking them...especially since part of the reason I was there was to pick up the computer her husband had fixed for me!

the moral of the story is: I made out like a bandit, as the saying goes

I love eggs. I mean LOVE them! And not just in cakes ;)
So we had a quick exchange of how different farm fresh and store bought are. I am not as advanced in the sense of taste. That is, I can SEE the difference in the two but taste-wise I'm not sure how I'd do in a blind taste test.

I'm afraid I may have come across as not being grateful for the eggs, but it made me want to test my theory.
Due to some strange circumstances that I don't fully understand, we already had two dozen eggs at home.
A dozen plain white eggs.
A dozen cage free brown.
And now these multicolored beauties.

Boiling may not have been the best way to go for this test. I'm planning on another test while I still have all varieties.
The only real obvious differences are that the brown one did not come out of it's shell as nicely, but that could've been my doing. And the white one is the only one with the divot...a clear indicator of it's freshness, I think, as that would've been the tippy top floating part as it was in the pot.

Now I don't know about you but those all look the same to me!
Normally, the way first indicator of a fresh egg is that nearly orange yolk (not the yellow you get with store bought).
This is where I think boiling was my misstep.

So the last test was taste, and again, I think with a boiled egg you're just not gonna get much difference. Boiling just turns them all into the same egg.
Had I focused a little more and timed it better for like a 6-minute egg, then the results may have been different.

Stay tuned for my fried version of the egg test ;)

I sold the Barracuda in December of 2020. Moving onto all the things the project was keeping me from.
