Lomonosov Bridge

The Fontanka River flows through the centre of St. Petersburg. Of course, all its banks are covered in granite. It is very pleasant to walk along such a bank and admire the water.

But it is not only water. The river is crossed by many streets and every time it is an original bridge.

.The bridge was built in 1785-1788 (since the bridge was not originally envisaged by the project, the recently completed granite embankments of the Fontanka had to be dismantled for its construction)[6][7]. The authors of the project different sources name engineers F. Bauer (Baur), I. K. Gerard, P. K. Sukhtelen, K. F. Moderakh, architects Y. M. Felten and V. I. Bazhenov[8]. Most sources favour the French engineer J.-R. Perrone[9]. The bridge had stone piers and stone arched coastal spans, with towers on bulls, the central wooden span was drawbridge. The drawworks were located in four granite towers. It was one of 7 typical three-span bridges over the river. Only two of these bridges have survived today: the Lomonosov Bridge and the Staro-Kalinkin Bridge.
