A Little Normalcy (Quarantine Winding Down)

Hello Hive,

Yesterday was Good Friday in Germany, and it’s apparently a national Holliday. Another seasonal festival hijacked by the church and state, but I digress!

Luckily, the swift response from the German government and health system has allowed for very few cases of Corona and even fewer here in Northern Germany. They have begun loosening the restrictions for the Easter Weekend so we decided to get out a bit in the nice weather.

We enjoyed the free time my wife had being off from work and met my mother-in-law in a neighboring town to take the kids out on their bicycles.

Theses tiny country villages are so picturesque. Population few hundred, with dairy farms on the main street, and a few houses built right next to each other set on a few streets in the entire town.

Most of the houses, in this particular town, were built during the time of the Kaiser and one can't but stand in awe of their built to last construction. It gives a sense of belonging, tradition, and security unlike the throwaway McMansions being built today.

Our Gemeinde (county) is geographically located between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea and sits on a river that flows out to the North Sea. Many of the county's villages are built around the river and uses its banks as their border. This town is no different.

Tourism is a major contributor to the local economy and normally this town would be swelling with campers and visitors over the next few weeks, but the future now is uncertain. The picture below shows a farmer that has made a canoe tour and camping business for the summer months.

After our ”bike tour” of the town, it was back to Oma’s house for some coffee and cake. If you're unfamiliar with German customs coffee and cake is a mandatory thing when visiting anyone, usually around 3:00 pm after ”Mittagsruhe” midday quiet time.

Today I am letting mrsbadger@mrsbadger sleep in a little, then she will begin the Easter preparations.
