Observation and discovery.

In things, in life, we don't all see the same thing, just as in art. The same painting for one person may represent one thing and for other people it may be something completely different. Some can even see shapes that others don't see.

Today I have the chance to go to many art exhibitions, most museums have a day and time when admission is free and many people go, I take advantage of those days. Others are always free and I go more regularly because the exhibitions are constantly changing. Seeing so much art makes my heart happy, but it also makes me reflect and have different perspectives on many issues.

Many of the works I see are clear and forceful, to see a painting of a human figure or of nature, is something that is well defined and in those cases I admire the technique, the realism, the good taste and the good art, that classic art that I like so much and that takes me back to my student years.

But many other times, like this one, the works are those in which one must stop to discover more than just the painting and which are also those that allow us to have different points of view. Not everyone sees the same thing, as in life.

What usually happens to me is that I can see in these kinds of paintings or representations, faces, shapes, eyes and that kind of thing. And depending on the angle you look at it, you see different things and that's wonderful. I think I got used to it some time ago.

In this show there was also a series of paintings that I thought were partly stained glass and partly abstract, where you can see different shapes and figures, all very colourful.

It gave me the feeling of seeing church windows or something like that, and they were all very beautiful. This museum always sets up the walls in a certain colour for each exhibition, and the contrast of the yellow with the paintings was just right.

But there were so many varied works, that there was a lot to see, all works by different artists who collaborated in the decoration of a university town in Venezuela. It was impressive to see so much and such a variety of art in one place and so many artists coming together for the same purpose.

But I could see not only paintings, of different kinds with different messages and techniques, but also sculptures and very good sculptures where everyone could also see different things. I spent a long time looking at them, they were really very good and there were many people doing the same as me.

There were oil paintings, illustrations, works made on canvas, photographs. A delight for the eye and the senses.

Whenever I go to an exhibition I always think about my favourites, which one I would choose and in this case I think that in this painting I could see many shapes, especially faces. Some you can see them up close and some you can see them a bit further away from the work. It is called ‘Altar para Yemayá’ from 1944 by Wilfredo Lam.

And this other one is darker but interesting called ‘Mimetic Steps I’ from 1950 by the same author. Of course you can and I would like you to let me know in the comments if you liked any of the works more.

Then at the end of the tour I also found some very strange works made with wires. The blue one was in a glass case and of the two I liked the most.

When I leave the museum I always like to see what's in the shop that corresponds to what I've seen before, sometimes it's closely related and sometimes not so much but it's always interesting to see the display of items they have available.

Thank you very much for joining me today. I wish you a very good Sunday. See you soon.
