Splinterlands Art Contest
Hello everyone~~ ^^ How are you?
Here’s my drawing for the Splinterlands Art Contest. For this week’s contest, I decided to choose a card from one of the old cards of Splinterlands and make a realistic portrait of them. And from all the pixies there are in Splinterlands I chose “Enchanted Pixie” card. ^^
All the Pixies in Splinterlands World look so cute and lovely ^^ and I really like all of them but this one is my favorite among them. I love the cute short hair style of this character and specially the beautiful wings she has got. To do the sketch, first I drew a girl and then drew a beautiful smile on her face just like the original art that she looks so happy ^^ Then I drew the remarkable features of the character. I drew the wings just like the original art but I changed her dress style.
When I finished working on the sketch, I started coloring the character. And as I always I started with coloring the skin first. I used a light natural skin color for painting her skin and after that I shaded with a darker color and then added the highlights on the skin with a lighter color. Then I went on coloring her facial features and dress. And after workin on them then it was time to color her hair and wings. I used a light brush to add some details on the wings.
Working on hair details is my favorite part of every drawing so after I colored it I shaded with a darker color and then added the hair strands to make it look more realistic. As for the background, I decided to keep it simple so I colored it with dark green color and then drew some trees because I thought that would be a great place to draw this pixie in and thought this pixie belongs to such places like jungle and can be found there. ^^ I also wanted to make the painting look more beautiful so I added some little lights around her. I also opened a layer on top and set the layer on multiply and darkened the corner so that the focus would be on our beautiful little pixie ^^
All the brushes that I used for making this art work are these: I used a simple sketch brush for the sketch and for coloring I used the air brushes, I usually use soft air brush and hard air brush for coloring, shading and highlighting but this time I also used medium air brush and I really liked working with this brush. There is only a little difference between them and I preferred working on this piece with this medium air brush specially when I was shading and highlighting the skin. I wonder why I thought it’s not useful before but I think that it was very comfy. ^^ and for drawing the hair strands I used a hair brush to add those fine hair strands. I also used a light brush for drawing more hair strands to make it even more realistic :D I also used a brush to add those little lights that I added in the end.
I really liked working on this portrait of Enchanted Pixie. I like how her facial expression turned out in the end. And one thing that I was so concerned about was the color pallet. I wanted all the color to go very well together. I hope you also liked it as much as I did.
Now let’s see the progress ^^
