February, Carnival time.
I confess that for some decades this "holiday" has gone off my radar a little.
The other day while I was doing psychomotor skills with the primary school children in my town, I was amazed to see them all in the costumes of today's various superheroes.
In the villages this custom survives while in the cities it seems that everything has been lost.
Yet I remember, as a child, the custom at Carnival of going to Piazza Vittorio in Turin, one of the largest squares in Europe to go to the rides.
At the time everything was much more felt, I remember that you almost sank your feet into the confetti on the ground, so many people participated in this secular rite.
It was a truly festive Sunday afternoon.
Today, as I said, everything survives in the villages, there are groups
who assemble a cart and then carry it around during the carnival in the various villages of the surrounding area, those towns in order to be able to have the carts place each one on a date on Carnival Sunday
different so as not to overlap.
I remember that in elementary school one year I went dressed as Zorro and another as a Harlequin.
Instead of pushing that Halloween crap that's no good
seeing with our culture people and advertising should really relaunch Carnival, a day in which children can think, thanks to a costume, of being the princess or the knight of who knows what medieval world or the last superhero of the Marvel.
