Watched "Blonde" tonight.
Some said, they turned off after 20 minutes because it was too sad and depressing. I imagine many cannot conceive what it might be like to have never felt loved? Like maybe someone like Marilyn Monroe? Of course, I chose to watch it because so many thought it too depressing.
I can't say for sure that it was an accurate depiction of her life, after all, hers was just one human being's life, albeit a cantonized one. But, based upon a lot of what we have been told about this icon of Hollyweird history, I could imagine much of it to have been an attempt to reveal her true and haunted personal soul experience here in this realm. I still wonder if the end of her life was as we are told, but this rendition of her life refused to go that far.
That said, the refusal to look at the dark side of life is the refusal to learn that we can each do better. There are millions of humans living on the edge, truly lost and alone, and no feature films are made about them. The dark side is scary, but it exists. If we simply ignore it, it will prevail.
There is a very dark side in control right now. The Marilyn story is just one small part of it, but depictive of how the weak are exploited, and ultimately destroyed. They do not have to win. We are much more powerful than they think we are.
