Replacing reason with wishful thinking.
Every single Trump supporter is an unconditional Trump supporter. I want to be clear about this. Every. Single. One. There are no remaining lines. If Trump isn’t across yet, he never will be. That has been clear since 2016.
The fact that his numbers didn’t budge no matter what outrageous evil nonsense he was spewing in 2016 should have made it clear then, but an additional 4 years of a perfectly stable approval rating despite constantly trying to set new records in being a piece of revolting subhuman trash, somehow still hasn’t convinced the left.
The Trump people are no different than segregationists, Nazis, slavers, or any of the countless other authoritarian movements that came before them. This instinct is an inescapable part of human nature, just like the equally destructive impulse to replace reason with wishful thinking (which is the basis of communism).
We need to come up with a way to live with these people and these instincts, because next time, we might not be as lucky.
Until then, especially since “next time” might be an imminent Trumpist coup, buy a gun, and learn how to use it. Preferably a semi-automatic, centerfire rifle with detachable magazines.
