Correcting someone who has said/done something harmful.
There's a lot of noise in certain places being made over certain people (or person, I won't name names) who have made some pretty bad decisions regarding how they "promote" themselves and hitchhiking on Hive for some rewards and I think all civil processes to resolving the problem have been exhausted.
What we don't want, is everything exploding into something bigger than it actually is, and without getting into specifics, I think the following process could be used to help correct someone (now referred to as offender) who has said or done something harmful.
Call-in
If i'm close enough to the "offender", that I can have a private conversation with them, I will. This protects the offender from feeling shamed or embarrassed and gives them an opportunity to ask followup questions. If i'm not the right person to do this, but I know someone who is, i'll reach out to them and ask them to extend their patience and grace to the offender.
Call-out
If i'm not close enough to the offender to have a private conversation with them, or if that conversation didn't result in some kind of understanding, then I will publicly correct them (or st back and let someone else do so, if the issue is out of my lane.) Hearing from the public may be more convincing to the offender, as they see it's not a matter of personal opinion, but an issue that affects the wider system, participants or other people.
Cancellation
If the offender is totally unwilling to admit fault, stop causing harm, and improve their behaviour, then I will stop associating with them. Evidence of changed attitudes and behaviour in future would prompt me to re-evaluate the offender and see if they are a good person to associate with going forward.
Hopefully this is a good three step process to help with not only disputes on Hive, but also in general.
We have the tools to do a lot of good, so I would prefer an amicable resolution in pretty much all conflicts that can give rise to a healthier relationship between all parties going forward.
