Syrian President Instructs Officials to Compensate Locals Affected by the Fires

Syrian President Bashar Al Assad toured a number of villages in the Syrian coastal province of Latakia after the devastating forest fires torched over 1200 acres of planted land and forests.

The Syrian president gave instructions to the accompanying officials to shoulder the largest burden of the losses from the fires and to help rehabilitate and replant the affected lands, to open new roads, and to reconnect the utilities at maximum speed.

Mr. Assad also thanked all who helped put down the fires especially the firefighters, the Syrian Arab Army, and the locals.
