Fasting has been practiced as a remedy for illness since ancient times. Syphilis was a constant malady plaguing soldiers of past armies.

During Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt, he learned that the Egyptians used fasting to cure syphilis for centuries. He had his afflicted soldiers undertake a complete fast for many days, and with great result.

Al Capone died of syphilis even though he was one of the first to receive penicillin. It was too late for him. Capone might have lived longer had he known about the fasting cure.
