Seeing the Animals at a Local Restaurant and Store - Panama

The other day, a few of the kids and I went to a local restaurant and store. They have a nice little collection of animals right across the parking lot. They often carry jalapenos and poblano peppers, so I was looking for some as well (they were out)!

Recently they've had the horse section closed, but they general house around 10 horses. They have even had 2 longhorn steers in the past in this section. They have chickens, sheep, and even bunnies in this area. We weren't able to enter it on this day.

The geese are usually pretty talkative as you walk up, but they must have just eaten or it was naptime, because they were really quiet that day! It always makes me want to get a guard goose seeing these guys!

They have a really nice little garden with all kinds of plants in it. I wonder if they use some of the herbs in their restaurant. They have a lot of dill, dandelions, flowers, and many other herbs. It's always amazing to me how much stuff they have growing in such a small space and then I wonder why I can't even get anything going! Ha!

The most interesting animal they have is a pair of javelinas! These guys are pretty funny to watch. At first, just one of them would come up to the fence.

He was happily eating away all of the dandelions that the kids were feeding him. They asked if they could pet him, but I didn't think it was a good idea! Not sure if he would bite and there were no signs up (this is Panama), but I saw he has some pretty big tusks.

After having a few little dandelions by himself, we noticed the other javelina came over. She was running over probably wondering why he was being such a pig and keeping all of them for himself!

The kids fed them quite a few dandelions and then I realized they were getting them from the garden! I'm not sure, but I doubt those are planted there to feed to the animals. I told the kids to find another weed to feed to them, but, as you can see by their overgrown enclosure, they're a little picky!

After a few minutes of trying to feed them real weeds, they were done. These little guys are pretty funny and my kids, of course, asked if we could get one. Ha! Nope, not thinking we'll be acquiring a javelina anytime soon.

This store sells sausage and other meats that they produce. They also sell it in the restaurant. It's good quality and tastes good, even if it's a little more expensive than most other places. It's an interesting little place because of the animals. The kids regularly ask to go here.
