Could Warfare ever switch to Robot PVP rather than Human PVP?
In response to article, I posed the following:
Can't we just resolve our conflicts using autonomous killer robots vs autonomous killer robots instead of human combatants?
It would be like BattleBots® just on a larger scale. Sure there have already been SciFi movies out there using this premise.
Yes, I understand that BattleBots® are not autonomous but this is what I meant:
I was thinking more along the lines of letting the robots duke it out in some sort of contained battle arena and then the losing faction conceding.
Of course this wouldn't work as technologically advanced factions would dominate and be able to take what they want as they please but, then again, isn't that already the case with modern warfare?
It's a pipe dream but technically would minimize the human cost of war but we know that if people deem whatever it is for which they are fighting worthy of fighting to the death that they would not care to put it on the line of some Robot Deathmatch. It's just wishful thinking on my part.
We know that technology has bearing on warfare but could there be a way that it can be conducted with less human casualty. It's a tough topic to broach considering the technological powers of certain people groups and their interests.
Personally, I don't believe we should be use technological advantage to coerce groups to our will but rather we work towards peace in that we allow such groups to govern themselves. If people are averse to that governance, we should work to their integration in societies that will allow them to live peaceably ideally without drastically altering their host nations.
What do you think?
Would it be possible for the powers of the world's struggles be resolved through exhibitions of technological superiority without human casualty or will humans continue to fight? My intuition tells me the latter will be the case until the rulers are put in a place that we all can interact more equitably. Alas, this isn't the current state of the world.
Are death robots our future?
I hope not. I believe human autonomy is paramount and such machines functions would be to only curtail that. In America, we have the second amendment that enables us to rise up against oppressive regimes but if they have something that can negate that right. We are in trouble.
We should all be cautious of this technology for one day it may be used against us...
