Hive Open Mike Week #107 - I try (Macy Gray)

Hello, fellow Hivers!

For this week's theme "Brave Mind" I would like to give Macy Gray's "I try", well, a try; when I sing this song I really feel her struggle with having a brave mind.
Oh, and I've got a cold and the pitch is nice and low.. 😄

A brave face

Putting on a brave face, when you feel the complete opposite, is so very hard, we've all been there!
Being nervous before an exam, having stage fright - anybody in this community will have experienced it - , being let down by a trusted person or wanting someone, you can't let know.. I'm not sure, which of the last two this song depicts, but in any case: you need to have courage to get through any of them: A brave mind.

Macy Gray herself has to have a brave mind as she suffers from bipolar disorder, which must be a nightmare in show business, where you're constantly surrounded by people with no escape, even if your mind tells you to get some space.

Bar chords

I have been meaning to practice this song properly for some time, but as it goes up by half a step, I have been shying away from it, the reason being the need for those dreaded bar chords! Little hands don't help... 😕

However, since having played with our band "Swing 42", things are starting to look a little brighter in that area, even if there is still lots of room for improvement.. 😀

Deep listening

I love these "themed weeks", finding a good song for a particular one. It really got me listening at them properly! So, thank you for that!

Of course, did I nick the term from the community rules, and I'm sure it wasn't meant like that, but it serves my own personal purposes quite well too! 🙂
