Steemit Name Challenge

I’ve seen this challenge a few times around Steemit lately but wasn’t really planning to do a post. However, I was tagged by two of my favorite friends on here: @simon62 and @wanderlass and after hearing the awesome stories behind their names I figured I had best put a post of my own together.

The Story Behind the Name

I first coined this username quite a few years ago on this writer’s website I found to share my poetry on - writerscafe.org. I wanted a name that said I was a poet but my actual name is not poetic whatsoever, plus I wanted to keep some form of anonymity so I went with my middle name and added speaks in there because my poetry gave me a voice I didn’t have in the real world at the time.

I’ve kept this username when I branched out into instagram and I thought the name could then take on a whole new dimension because I planned to share a lot of human rights, “political” type posts on there, as well as poetry, and so the Speaks portion of it became much more prevalent.

When I found Steemit it only seemed natural to keep going with a.marie.speaks - even though the platform wouldn’t allow the periods for separation - the way I have on my other usernames but I just squished it all together and thought people could figure it out on their own.

The Real Name

Well here goes the mystery behind the veil - my middle name is Marie, after my grandmother whose middle name was the same. The a stands for Allyson - and awful. LOL

I never liked my given name. I always went by Ally andn even that I'm not a fan of.. . Only about 3 people in the whole world called me Allyson.. most friends and family call me Ally.. Even my husband knows I don’t like my name - he just calls me sweetheart. If he ever calls me Ally I know he’s mad with me lol so between sweetheart and Mom I don't hear my real name much anymore ;-)

A rose by any other name??

If I was to change my username, I would probably switch over to my other commonly used username: Third Eye Navigation - I have a wordpress blog, redbubble, and email address all with this name already so the transition would be easy ;-)

I like that name because I think it sums up my personality and perspective all in one but I believe I didn’t think of it until after I had started on Steemit.
