Week 09 Response -- Why NFTs are Viewed as Valuable
This post is a response to the question ["What makes NFTs more appealing and valuable to people?"] (@awetsell/week-09-nft-questions) posed by @awetsell. To me, I feel that one of the appeal factors that NFTs offer people is that it is confusing and also a learning process. I think majority of people are intrigued by things they don't understand, and they want to learn. I think that because NFTs are a new and upcoming concept, many people are extremely interested in finding out and sort of seeing what happens. One of the successful things of new concepts and ideas is that they're new, and most people tend to like newer things rather than old. I also think that there is a sort of human inclination to want to learn new things, and ideas like NFTs give people a place to lean into and learn new things. One of the most obvious reasons people are interested in NFTs is money and investments. Even though this is a very new playing field and is seen as very high risk, many people who have already dived into this area have seen a lot of money that is made through it and therefore I feel that this encourages and motivates a ton more people to try and get into it. Another basic reason for this boom in discussion of NFTs is that everyone is talking about it and so because it is popular and many people are participating, it makes it a valuable field. Especially when you take into consideration all the celebrities and well-known popular people are investing and talking about NFTs it encourages society and everyone to become interested and therefore creates value in it. Something that was discussed in the FES meeting was how there are many ways to interact in NFTs and ways to be involved in this community. I think that this is also what appeals to people, as it is a learning process that is visual and connective rather than studying, reading and listening to videos, talks etc. This increases the value, as people want to connect and be involved in things, especially with well known people and/or brands.
