Hydraulic energy experiment
I have no idea how to explain everything I did for this experiment because there were materials I didn't have and I had to improvise. I wasn't planning on doing it because I didn't have any materials at home for any kind of experiment, and just this week at school they asked for an experiment (anything related to energy). There were easier experiments, but I didn't have any of the materials here, and they're not things that are easy to find, at least where I live. So, after several days of worrying that my son wouldn't be able to turn in any work, my day was finally brightened by a video on TikTok that explained an experiment on hydraulic energy. This time, the materials were easier to find or replace, so I decided to do it.
Proceso/Process
To start with, I needed two soda or water bottle caps, but I didn't have any, so I miraculously got two caps from my son's tempera paint set. I had to sacrifice them, but anyway, the first step was to glue both caps together with hot silicone, then reinforce them with adhesive tape. In the center of the caps, I made a hole using a hot needle. I had to do this several times because I needed a hole larger than the thickness of a needle.
Then I took some plastic spoons that I bought about four years ago and finally put to good use. I cut them, leaving a small piece exposed that would be used to stick them to the lids. I cut six spoons and stuck them on using hot silicone. I took a wooden stick and placed it inside the hole I made in the lids; it fit perfectly. Then I started to make a base where I would later place a water bottle. For this base, I used ice cream sticks.
Building this platform wasn't easy, and in fact it was partly a failure because the structure can't stand on its own. It's a bit frustrating, but I'll see if I can fix it later. Then I put two pairs of sticks together and glued them to make the extension for this propeller. Next, I glued some small sticks to one end, then made a hole and inserted another wooden stick.
That stick is the same one we used earlier to transfer the caps. We leave it stuck in the hole we made, and then ideally we would use a cut cigarette, but I didn't have one, so I decided to make a paper straw and reinforce it with hot silicone. The purpose of this paper is to facilitate the mobility of the propeller so that it can rotate without any obstacles. We place the spoons on the stick and then take another ice cream stick and make a hole in the center to cover the remaining stick so that it doesn't come out. Don't press too hard so that it rolls smoothly.
I realized that the structure I made was hindering the propellers from turning because it was too short and was hitting the base of the tray I used, so I decided to lengthen the structure a little more by gluing more popsicle sticks. Then I made a hole in a plastic bottle and inserted a makeshift straw that I made out of aluminum foil. I sealed it well with hot silicone so that the water wouldn't leak out. Now all that's left is to mount the bottle on the base and add water to make the magic happen.
I couldn't take the best photos of the final result because I feel really bad. This experiment gave me a terrible headache because it was very stressful to do it without having all the materials. Even so, it turned out pretty well, with a few flaws, but better than I expected.
