Urban composting worms moved homes!

I hope you're having a lovely Sunday. I know I am, because today I finally have some enriched compost (otherwise known as "black gold") to mix with my plants' soil. About 3 weeks ago we no longer fed our red wigglers in their usual, second-tier composting bin. We used a brand new one and stacked it on the top (third tier) with fresh substrate and soil.
We drilled holes in the bottom of the bin so that the worms in the middle bin could find their way to the top, where the food was.

Well, today is the day to check on them.

This is now the top tier bin.
As you can see, It's full of food and worms!

and is nicely covered with fresh soil, so they can relax in their new home.

The second bin has practically no worms left in it. They've all crawled up through the holes and into their new home. All that's left is a huge bin full of enriched compost. There are still some stragglers, so I think we'll leave it a few weeks longer and then manually pick out whatever worms were unable to find their way to the new bin on the third floor.

For anyone wondering, this is what our indoor composting system looks like. The "black gold" is made up of worm castings (compost) and our red wigglers are crawling up into the active area with food scraps.

We leave or composting system in a cool, dark area in our small, downtown apartment and check on it about once a month.

And no, it doesn't stink.

Our indoor garden is always growing and today will get a dose of delicious compost and worm tea :)

Right now we're doing this as a hobby and to reduce food waste, but have been talking with @pamarias about considering doing it as a business. We work on it during the weekends and who knows, perhaps one day we can make it happen if it makes business sense.

We don't plan on scaling it massively, just a little side project that can bring in a little extra income.
