AZL Book: Electrical Math - Poles & Throws

This concept is simple but I found it difficult to wrap my head around at first, so it seemed worth writing down for my own future reference.

So, at least to the best of what I’ve been able to determine, pole refers to the switch. Throw refers to the other end, the end that to moving switch connects to. So a single pole single throw will have one switch, and only one output circuit, while a single pole double throw will have one switch that can connect to two possible output circuits…und so weite.

If I’ve got this wrong, please don’t hesitate to correct me. Otherwise, I hope this helps next time you have to spec a switch!
