A algunas solamente, otras me odian. XD.

Milagrosamente, no. Fui aceptada.

Hello, Daily Blog friends, I'm making my debut in this community. I come today, all excited, to share a wonderful new development that has entered my life: I am taking a postgraduate editing course at the Faculty of Arts and Letters.

Those who know me are aware that I've been writing fiction since I was 11 years old. I wasn't able to, or didn't know how to, do anything with that until I joined the literary workshop 'Espacio Abierto' (via WhatsApp) four years ago. It was there that I met many people like me, found stories similar to those I write (with the same beginner's mistakes and problems), learned to give and receive criticism, lost my fear of exposing my work in public, and realized that in Cuba, you can actually build a career in the world of letters.

It was also at EA where I discovered that some people like how I deconstruct their works. Some people, others hate me for it. XD. I tend to do unto others what I like done unto me, and I firmly believe that only if you see what you're doing wrong can you improve. Therefore, I point out to my colleagues everything I perceive as an error in their writing. I don't know how good a writer I am right now, but my credentials as a reader are 44 years of reading non-stop, everything, and attentively. So, as I always tell those who place themselves in my hands as an apprentice editor, I am a reader (alpha, beta, or upsilon, I don't care), and a very good reader at that.

In this world of writing, I look for opportunities, and consequently, opportunities look for me. I was fortunate enough to start the narrative techniques course at the Onelio J. Cardoso Training Center this year. And there, where part of the classes involves practicing criticism, I became convinced that yes, I want to be an editor, and I believe I have some talent for it. I like to do things well, so I needed to find an editing course.

The Faculty of Arts and Letters announced their course, and I applied just for the sake of it. I imagined that just the girls studying Linguistics would fill the quota. We fifty-year-old women are used to being kindly but firmly turned away from everywhere. Miraculously, no. I was accepted. And if it weren't for a friend from the Onelio course, I wouldn't have even found out. Today was my first official class, and I was delighted. It's a difficult profession, especially because if the book turns out well, the author is praised. If it turns out badly, the editor is to blame.

Today I learned several things I didn't know. For example, that the publishing house doesn't always follow the RAE rules. And that the editor oversees the entire publishing process, from receiving the manuscript to handing the book over to the printing house, including design and illustrations.

Thank you for reading this far. Text and photos created and owned by me. English translation with Deepseek.
