One of the cell types found in abundance in many animals is the #epithelial cell. These cells are abundant in organs such as skin, veins. Researchers later found that these cells were also present in the salivary glands and embryos of the vinegar sieve. In biology books, the type of these cells is defined as "a sort of prism or column with two parallel faces and a certain number of parallel noses".

Computer modeling scientists have seen that epithelial cells come together in unconstrained fashion by mathematicians when they come together to form the curvature of organs. Scientists, who looked like a prism with two sides with a slightly sloping edge, inspired by the triangular shape of the thorax of a bug called scutellum and named it "#scutoid".

Scientists have found that when cells receive their scutoid shape, they reduce energy use the least, while maximizing their stability. Javier Buceta, researcher at Lehigh University, says that this finding will help engineers to develop productive models in the construction of artificial organs. Buceta also stated that they are lucky, saying that they do not have the chance to name a new type in this kind of research.
