When in Yucatan, Mexico

A friend asked me about visiting the Yucatan, and this is what I had to share...

Some of the things I wish I was better prepared for was to hire a vehicle myself and have Google Maps on hand with roaming or a local data plan to get me from A to B, or Cancun to Chichen Itza.

There's a lot to do and see, but you don't want to find that the main attraction for your day on a group tour ends up being a 90 minute fly by with a heap of other stuff like gift shops and side attractions to distract you and clutter your day.

It's a long way to go, particularly from Australia, to find that you're being taken off track to some place the tour operator is getting a kick back from.

Learn some Spsnish…

Coffee Break Spanish has some great free lessons. Quite a lot actually. If you can learn a thing or two with this, you'll get a lot more out of your trip, and it will be even more fun!

Some places that I found were amazing include the Sian Ka’an biosphere, Tulum, Dzitnup cenote (there are hundreds of these in the area), and Campeche which for me was like visiting Flores snd Antigua in Guatemala, but with a Mexican touch.
