Travis Picking for Beginners / 1 of 2

I show you Travis picking for beginners in this first of two lessons.The style is named after Merle Travis, a fingerstyle blues player. It incorporates playing rhythm and melody independently with the thumb and fingers of your picking hand.

It's one of those techniques that can really bring your playing to a new level.

This lesson is broken down into short exercises, at the end of which you'll be able to play through a tune called Trainstop Blues.

The lesson is lifted from a lesson by Pete Madsen in the July 2003 edition of Acoustic Guitar magazine, copyright String Letter Publishing.
