This German brand Staedtler pencil sharpener, model 50170, has been an object that my children have used for a long time. Many of the pencils they have used in their school career, have gone through this old tool.

This item was created in 1960. It has been in existence for 63 years and is still working. It gives us a great construction, where bakelite and steel, form the generality of its body. It is of the type of mechanism of rotation by crank, and has the possibility of being fixed to a table for its stability.

It has its adjustment systems for the pencils, whether you want as a result, a long and sharp tip for black leads, or short and thick tips for colored pencils.

The crank has its button that regulates the rotation of the inner mechanism. As you can see in the following image, the blade that sharpens the pencils is in the form of a steel roller, which rotates when the crank is manipulated, while the pencil is retained by the 6 serrated teeth, resembling those of a shark.

Once you start using this tool, the pencil shavings fall into a small reservoir, made of a hard plastic, which is engraved on the front with its world-famous brand name and specific model.

What is Staedtler?

It is the leading German company in the manufacture of writing and drawing instruments. It has many subsidiaries and plants around the world.

Founded in 1835, with a wide range of proven quality products for both home and professional use. Its legal name is: Staedtler Mars GmbH & Co. KG.

Like all things in life, this pencil sharpener has its moment of fullness and its moment of regression. Its blades are no longer as sharp as they used to be, but they have been sharpening my children's pencils for years, and it is still standing and giving us its fruits.

It treasures for us a nice history, and for its years, for me it is a very interesting vintage object.

Thank you for visiting me. I wish you a nice Friday.
