
LeoGlossary: TikTok
TikTok is a short-form video hosting service that allows users to upload videos ranging from as short as 15 seconds to 10 minutes. It was launched in 2017 by the Chinese Company, ByteDance and was initially available on iOS and Android in some parts of the world but later became global after merging with Musical.ly in August 2018.
It has grown massively across 154 countries and is now the most downloaded application of all time surpassing over 3 billion in total downloads.
As of December 2022, it has over 1 billion monthly active users which accounts to 30% of the world's total Internet users. And with more than 1 billion videos being watched on the app daily, TikTok is the 6th most popular social media after WeChat.
It is available for download for both iOS and Android from the App Store and Google Play respectively.
