There are lots of successful online businesses. You may admire their wealth. You might try to emulate them, but stop trying to make money.
Before I started working online, I have been in situations between jobs and desperate for funds to pay the bills. I tried different ways of making money online, then I realized. It’s never about making money.
My motto became – do things you enjoy doing, then find ways to earn money from that.
For me, the easiest way to find what I wanted do do was to think long and hard about what I would do with a significant lottery win. We all have things we would like to buy, but never have the cash to do so. But this is not about spending cash, it’s about spending time. How would you spend your day? What would you look forward to doing the next day?
If your answer is lazing by a pool, stop playing at online business immediately. Go find something else to do. You will not build a successful online business by being lazy. It takes time and passion, but that is good.
Do things you enjoy and then make money.
Personally, I like writing about topics that will help other people. I like explaining complicated subjects in ways that people can understand. I like breaking down those complex subjects into step-by-step guides. I like providing information, and I earn advertising revenue and sales commissions from different parts of that process.
If you want to make money from providing information, you have to generate interest first. You cannot have revenue without visitors. And not just numbers. You need enough visitors, and they have to be the right type of visitor.
Since I started working online, I’ve seen times when website traffic fell away and revenues tumbled. But it is a mistake to try and milk the dwindling visitor numbers. You have to find ways to regenerate the traffic. Once you get traffic, you can earn money. Never put the money first, or you will drive the visitors away.
I will write more about how to attract the right visitors in separate articles. Today is about getting your direction right.
Now, I’ve explained the essence of generating revenue from providing information. I tend to take the easy way and rely on AdSense and Amazon. There are refinements including selling ebooks and membership schemes. This direction has the benefit of very little financial outlay. However, it also take time. It takes a commitment every day to publish content and build networks. The rewards will come, but they are never immediate.
So what can you do if you need money immediately online? First of all completely ignore any schemes that claim to earn money quickly. They do not work. Do not waste the time. What you have to do is look at your skills and look at your surroundings, and find products or services that you can sell. Really think outside the box. The beauty of the Internet is that you have a global market. Don’t limit yourself. Personally, I’m about to de-clutter and sell some old stuff on eBay. I know people have turned this into an online business by sourcing items from charity sales or friends. I’ll let you know later how that little project fairs. I know other people with craft skills who have made products to sell online from the comfort of their own homes. There are opportunities everywhere you look. But you have to look.
Now it’s time for you to decide. If you want an online business, stop trying to make money, and think what you can make that is useful. I will help you get your ideas to market, but only you can know what you want to do.
