My new libraries are great for organizing knowledge. But how to organize the research prior to publishing? Step forward MindMup – an online mapping tool that I use every day.

I use it for many things. But here I will focus on quickly organizing a new research project.

One of the main reasons I use a mapping tool is flexibility. Because at the start of many new research projects I have no firm structure. How can I have a structure? When I don’t yet have the knowledge that will show me how to plan it.

Normally, you’d never see my first draft of a research map. Because there is no flow of ideas to help you understand the concepts I’m teaching. But that’s the point – you need to see what a draft looks like. Before you can structure it for other people.

So that’s the center of my map straight out of MindMup. But cropped to fit on your screen.

Next comes the text. More-or-less, straight out of MindMup. But in 2 parts because I wanted different headings and bullet points. “More-or-less” because I had to change the title (MindMup on Scholar) from Heading size 1 to Heading size 2. Also, I had to add a styling change for the bullet points. Though that might only be needed to fix poor styling from my current theme. As it has looked perfect first time on other sites.

MindMup on Scholar

Purpose: To see if there is sufficient useful information about MindMup to introduce it as a valuable aid to learning. Because I am considering using it as a collaborative learning tool with people who want my input on their learning projects. So if that goes ahead, I will need to provide MindMup background information with examples. In addition to my own “MindMup With Keith” procedures.
